Development of Force TIG technology on cryogenic applications

  • Posted on: 27thNovember, 2025

Fabrication industries are always probing for the welding process's which caters the need to get short delivery schedule along with requisite quality of the product. Each welding process has its own advantages along with some limitations.

In terms of the quality, TIG process is considered to be an effective process for achieving good mechanical properties along with Impact requirements at low temperature applications. The limitation for the current process on productivity index leads to the development of force tig process on austenitic stainless steel by ER308LSi having shielding gas mixture of Argon (95%) + Hydrogen (5%) for getting good productivity along with the quality.

Force TIG Process is a patented process of EWM Germany and it works on keyhole mechanism without any weld edge preparation on weldments.

After the installation of machine, its operational training was imparted on different thickness and cost comparison of Force TIG welding process is also calculated. Tangible benefits stated that after implementing Force TIG technology Productivity Index is increased by 5X times, energy consumption is reduced by 2X times, machine operating cost is reduced by 2X times, filler wire consumption is reduced by 1.2X times, 5X times reduction in manpower, labour cost is reduced by 5.8X times and finally spot wise repair % is reduced by 2.4X times.

Based on experiments conducted at Inox India Ltd., we have determined the possible ways of generating sound weld quality with higher productivity and virtuous welding quality using Force TIG Process.
