Analysis Of Welding Characteristics On Carbon Steel For The Process Of Conventional GMAW And GMAW-SPEED

  • Posted on: 7thJuly, 2025

In purpose of this study was to evaluate newly developed GMAW advanced variant weld process of SPEED in comparison with standard GMAW process.

Standard GMAW process having higher heat input and lower welding speed. The GMAW-SPEED process is a Modified output waveform variant of manual GMAW. The Modified output waveform very significantly improves the Travel Speed and deposition rate.

The aim of this study is to examine effect of modified waveform of GMAW-SPEED process over conventional GMAW. ER70S-6 filler wire was used in this work and welded by conventional GMAW and GMAW-SPEED process.

The properties of undiluted weld metal are evaluated with addition of modified waveform control technique. This paper reports on tensile strength, impact toughness properties (-50°C and -40°C for ER70S-6), lateral expansion and microstructure of ER70S-6 weld deposited using conventional GMAW and GMAW - SPEED process.

The undiluted weld metal microstructure was examined on both the process weld metal for the ER70S-6 filler wire. The improved mechanical properties by low heat input and high travel Speed were analysed with tensile, impact and hardness properties. How the modified waveform of GMAW could help to improve the productivity was discussed.
